The French & Indian War (also called the 7 Year War)
In 1753, both the British and French governments were trying to expand their territories in North America. The boundary between the French and British territories was not well defined, resulting in conflict which turned into the French and Indian War. The war pitted the French government and the french colonists against the British government, the American colonists and the native Iroquois tribe. American colonists, George Washington, fought with the British in this war, which lasted from 1754 to 1763.
The British won the war, but it proved to be very expensive. The British government had gone into debt. Since the war was fought mainly to protect the borders of the American colonies, the English government decided to make the Americans help pay for the debt. This naturally created great unrest with the colonists.
